Integration

Skylab (ERP) integration with WooCommerce

Integration between a management system (Skylab) and a WooCommerce store: stock and prices synchronized automatically, and sales sent back to the system for invoicing and shipping.

The challenge

The company runs everything in Skylab: stock, prices, invoicing and shipping. The online store had to sell with that same data, without anyone entering anything twice and without clashing with the stock of the other sales channels.

How I solved it

  1. Skylab is the source of truth. I defined the management system as the single source of truth for stock and price. If there is any difference, Skylab prevails, so the same data never has two versions.
  2. A warehouse of its own for the web. I arranged with Skylab an exclusive warehouse for the online store. What is sold online does not take stock from the other channels, and the other way around.
  3. Scheduled sync by SKU. A scheduled task queries Skylab once or twice a day and updates the stock and price of each product, identified by its SKU. It keeps the data current without overloading either system.
  4. Sales go back to the system. When an order becomes "completed" in WooCommerce, a webhook sends it to Skylab, which invoices it and handles shipping. The store also deducts stock at the moment of sale, so the same item is not sold twice between one sync and the next.
